WIP Wednesday March 18th

I started this little quilt yesterday for a customer. It's for her grandson... She wanted his name in the border and birth date to be smaller in the bottom border. It took me all day Monday to figure out how I wanted to do the lettering. I played with a bunch of different fonts in publisher... I wanted each name to be continuous so there wouldn't be a lot of stops and starts. I wasn't liking anything that was I was coming up with on the computer when I finally at a light bulb moment. I remembered how we drew our names in junior high art class to resemble graffiti. So I found a lettering I liked (I could of done it free hand but I wanted it more consistent) then traced them so they connected. Here's the birth date final drawing...

And his name quilted...

I fill in the holes on the first name... not sure that I like it that way, but thinking it's easier to fill in the holes on the rest rather than take those out.

I got all my squares cut for my disappearing 9-patch. Now to start piecing!

After a discussion on MQR about embroidery and applique, that it was more than time to finish the last block for my baskets that I start about 3 years ago or more. (I'm easily distracted :-0) I got the first 5 done pretty fast but for some reason put off doing the last one. Maybe it's all the french knots that need to be done... I won't bore you with all the blocks right now.

And the one in progress...

Now I better go get some work done!

  1. Love the lettering, Kim! As far as boring us with the rest of your embroidered blocks, please post them! Boring, you're not!
