Ta Done...

I teach a beginning hand applique class...  I've taught it for many years. In this class my students learn 9 different techniques to make the same heart.  With each technique we discuss when and why that technique would be the best one to use.

This top was made by one of my students...  she added hand embroidery to many of her hearts.

The batting is Hobbs Tuscany Wool. I used InvisiFil 100wt poly thread for all the quilting.  The quilting is my favorite feather background fill with feathers in the border...

My favorite is the reverse applique heart...

We do one heart that is fused with hand button hole stitch...

More hearts...

Setting triangles...

And the back...

  1. Nine different techniques? I do not think I can even name NINE! I am one of those Appli-phobes (my made up word) but would like to learn more. Do you teach anywhere in the San Francisco bay area or on Craftsy? This quilt is gorgeous. I refer to appliqué as the "A" word but would really like to change that. Under your copyright you stated "I'm sure you won't find too much on my blog that is worth your time and trouble to copy and use elsewhere" You are too modest and so, so wrong. Your post content is great. I have one feeble attempt at appliqué (not even hand, by machine) and it is at these links
