Point to Point Sashing Design

The quilt that I just finished I used a combination of computer designs and freehand feathers.  The computer design in the sashing was done using the Point to Point feature with my Quilt Gallery. I thought I'd share a quick video on how I created the design...  I must say I'm addicted to Point to Point designs!!!

I have been quilting along with be at Sew Expo a couple weeks ago and training new A1 Quilting Machine owners.

Just taking this one off the frame...  Curly Weave by Karen Thompson.  I really, really love the texture it creates!

I did not get a lot of pictures of this quilt... as it needed to be delivered as soon as it came off the frame.  

I've been longarm quilting for 17 years and I keep learning about who I am as a quilter.  My customer wanted boomerangs spinning in the blocks.  I thought, that sounds easy enough. I was wrong! Not for me!  What I learned is I'm a right brain quilter.  I can do intricate freehand designs with organic shapes all day long.  But if someone wants a structured design... forget it.  I need to either use a stencil or my computer....

I created a boomerang design and made a stencil...  but the fabrics are busy and I could not see the lines to follow them. When quilted they did not look like boomerangs!

 I searched and search for a digitized design with boomerangs.  I found nothing.  The design that my customer and I both agreed on is Decatur, Block 5 by Christy Dillon.

Anyway I'm pleased with the end results... I used my Quilt Gallery computerized system to do the block designs and quilted freehand Ribbon Candy in the sashing.

On the Machine

I love the texture straight line can create!  I'm using the channel locks on my Quilt Gallery computerized system to quilt the border of this quilt.

I finished this last week....  absolutely love the way it turned out!!! This quilt was pieced by one of my best customers. I always enjoy working on her quilts. Her colors and fabric choices are wonderful. I believe the pattern is Sidelights...

I did the blocks with my Quilt Gallery computerized system...

A did ruler work with freemotion quilting in the sashing and small gold border...

In the center I outlined the print fabric and add a background fill in the green...

I used the channel locks on the Quilt Gallery to do the bead board quilting in the purple border...

Sometimes I like the back the best.... :-)

On the Machine

I took my quilt off the frame to work on a few customer quilts....  I do believe this is turning out out wonderfully!

I'm using a purple Glide thread in the border and blocks, a copper Glide thread in the small border and sashing, and a green Invisifil in the panel and green sashing.....   Hobbs 80/20 batting.  The quilting is a combination of freehand, rulers and computer work.

Yes!!!   I finished a customer quilt!

This last summer I added the Quilt Gallery to my quilting studio...  The Quilt Gallery is the automated system that A1 Quilting Machines offer.  It's a pretty user friendly system and so far I've been having fun getting to know it better.  I think it will be great for doing pantographs (edge to edge quilting)!!! 

Don't get me wrong...  I still very much enjoy doing freehand work.  I always will, but this gives me the opportunity to do even more.

This is the first customer quilt that I have quilted using the Quilt Gallery...

I used a design called New Delhi #2 by Patricia Ritter.
