UFO's

Unfinished Objects.... I always thought it should be UFP's or UFQ's for unfinished projects or unfinished quilts. But it is what it is.

Over at MQResource a new forum as been added for stashbusting and UFO's. I've decided not to do the stashbusting (most of my stash is still in storage for our move 3 years ago) but really want to get some of my UFO's finished and UQQ's (unquilted quilts) quilted.

We stated our goals for the week on Monday... I said that I wanted to get the borders on two different projects. One being my Freeze Frame quilt. It only needs the final 3 border, then it will be UQQ. I'd really like to get this one done and on the frame.

The other one that needs a border is my Lightening Strikes Twice. All I have to do to finish this top is to add the final purple border. (Same purple that is in the quilt above... I love that fabric!)

It should be a simple task to put borders on these 2 quilts, but I get distracted easily... I keep think about this other project that needs borders. It's from a class I took from Roxanne Carter a few years ago and the pattern is called Winter Rose It had been on my design wall for a few years. I kept looking at it and kept thinking it needed something more than just a couple strips for borders...

I guess I need to take a new picture since all the blocks are done and sewn together... This is how I was planning on finishing it.

Anyway, I've been playing with EQ6 and came up with this... Which I really like! I'm going to piece partial blocks to go around it.

WIP Wednesday 8/12/09

I can't believe I missed a whole week... Well, yes I can. Don't ask me what I did last week because it wasn't really much, or at least nothing particular stands out in my mind. OH, OH... I did do a small baby quilt for a customer. The only pix I got are close ups of the quilting. I did a freehand edge to edge heart pattern. It's not really a pattern I've seen anywhere but I did take inspiration from a design in No Boundaries by Nicole Webb & Jamie Wallen. (this book is now out of print as far as I know)

I've gotten most of my Lightening Strikes Twice from Scrap Therapy pieced together. I just need to add the final border then quilt it... I picked out a yummy plum batik for the border. It was quite dark next to the green so I added the small 3/4" orange border to add a bright splash of color. I can't wait to start quilting this one!

Yesterday I decided that I needed a new blue necklace. I had this art glass bead that a good friend of mine gave me a couple years ago, but had never done anything with. It has the perfect blue & green colors I wanted all swirling together. I got out my beads and start stringing. I was just about done with the very last string of mixed seed beads when I dropped the wire and beads went every where... grrr I patiently reworked that whole side and started to string the wires into the crimp bead when I did it again! GRRR!!! One should know when to give up and start fresh the next day...but NO! I don't know that! I did get it done and am really pleased with it.

It did end up a little short... you can see where I added just a bit to it at one side of the clasp. I was noway going to take it apart and start over!

I don't know why I showed that pic. Oh well...

Yep.. that's better! LOL!!!

If you are into quilts and like to do puzzles, check out Sue's blog. I really enjoy doing her puzzles every week.

WIP Wednesday, a day late...

I got busy yesterday cleaning the house... It's not like my house is dirty or messy, but I hadn't taken the time to do that deep cleaning that just needs to be done once in awhile. So anyway, I forgot all about it being WIP Wednesday.

I'm going to be teaching the next Scrap Therapy, Lightening Strikes Twice, class at Quilt Harbor this month, so I've been working on the sample. It uses 5" squares, so I thought it would be a good quilt to use some of the nickles from a swap I did a while back. Took out my box of nickles to see which I would like to work with and decided on the green pile. I love green.... Non of the other piles really went with the green for the second color so had to dig through my stash with purple in my mind. I found a group of magenta fabrics that I really liked with the green so went to work cutting. So far I'm really, really liking this quilt! I think I'll use it for one of the beds in our camp trailer.

Here's what I got going so far...

As I was piecing these block I realized my water jug matches my fabrics...

I decided that I don't need my quilt to be as big as what the pattern calls for so I'm only doing 3 rows of 8 blocks. Here's the first row...

And all 3 row done...

Did I mention that I really, really like this so far. It reminds me of all the foxgloves that are blooming at the edge of the woods. MMMM there's got to be a good name for this quilt in there somewhere. Now off to the quilt shop to pick out the sashing.

I've also got more coloring done on my little white quilt, but I'm not going to bore you with more pix of that until next week... VBG Oh, and I have a customer quit that I load yesterday after cleaning. On Tuesday I marked the quilting plan. I'm really excited about the plan for it, but you will just have to wait to see until I have some quilted....
