WIP Wednesday a day late... Mocha Swirl

I had so much FUN with my Stackers quilt I decided to finish up a quilt that I started several years back. (the second quilt in that old post)  I took the triangles of the blocks that I started so that they would create a kaleidoscope where they meet....  while putting the blocks back on the design wall I kept wondering how it would look with a darker brown print...

And of coarse I had to stack the brown print too!!!

I really really like this now...

I usually have a hard time naming my quilts, but this one called out for one...  Mocha Swirl!

WIP Wednesday

While working at Quilt Harbor I've been challenged to make a quilt out of group of fabrics....

I'm thinking this will look really good in my vintage Airstream trailer with it's harvest gold appliances...

So far I really like how it's coming together...

WIP Wednesday

My Stackers quilt is getting really close to being ready to quilt....

This awesome border print kept yelling at me...  it really, really wanted to go in this quilt.  I need to get a pic of the print before I cut in apart.  When you see it on the bolt you would never think it goes with this..

WIP Wednesday

I was having a hard time deciding between a WIP (work in progress) Wednesday or a Wordless Wednesday...  WIP won.

Since I've been working the 2 jobs and not having much time to quilt I decided I needed a hand project that is portable and can be worked on in front of the TV or during lunch time at work.  I've been taking my sock loom with me and working on socks, but I needed a little change.

I use to applique quite a bit, but hadn't done much in several year.  I should say that I haven't done any in about 5 years or so.  At Quilt Harbor the Applique Society has started meeting the 3rd Monday of the month...  this got me itching to stitch.  There's something soothing about doing hand work.  So anyway, I started the center block to Heart Desire

I was able to get the center and most of the red stitched down the other day while our power was out.  The hearts are the only thing that needs to be stitched which I will work on tonight.

I don't think I'm going to do the whole quilt that Esther designed.  Just the center block...  I want to keep it small to give me more of a chance to actually finish it.  I plan on designing an applique border to go around it...  right now just ideas floating around in my head.

WIP Wednesday, 2/24/10

I am such a blog slacker!!!! It amazes me how many blogger have something interesting to say everyday. I just don't know how you do it. And then there are those who blog once a day 2 or 3 times a day...

I guess I sometimes feel that others wouldn't be that interested in what I'm doing, thinking or what have ya. Creative writing wasn't my strong point in school...

Anyway, enough excuses! Here's a few pix of a customers quilt that I'm working on. I took Carla Barrett's Quilt Whispering Class over at MQR and have joined the yahoo group called quilt whisperer. There I posted pix of this quilt for help. I am using some of the design ideas that Carla drew and some of my own... (Thanks Carla!)

Before any designing or quilting.

1st border and design by Carla.

2nd border.

Start of the 1st block.

If you ever get a chance to take Carla's class... do it! It is well worth every penny... :-)

WIP Wednesday, 1/20/10

Works in Progress.... I didn't get anything done last week that I had planned. I have some kind of aversion to borders. Sewing long straight seams are just too boring. (I'd rather be piecing) So finishing the borders for last weeks quilts are still on my list to do.

What I have worked on is my Winter Rose by Roxanne Carter.

I got all the 4-patch blocks done that I will need for the partial blocks that will frame the top...

Now I need to go work on a customer quilt!

WIP Wednesday, 12/2/09

Works in progress... It feels like I haven't been quilting as much as normal between working at Sears and Quilt Harbor. I only find a few hours in the mornings to get anything done.

I'm working on a customer's quilt. Don't know the name of the pattern but it's really cute. If you know the name, please leave a comment and let me know what it is...

Anyway, I really like how it's coming. After the first row, I figured how to do a row continuous including the feather motifs... Yeah!

Now to get more done on this before I have to go to work.... :-)

WIP Wednesday, 10/21/09

Where has the week gone??? I don't have much to report in quilting. I've been working at Quilt Harbor a few days helping them get ready for this weekends shop hop. This includes piecing a shop sample... but I didn't have my camera with me, so no pic.

I'm still working on the same quilt on my machine... no pix until it's almost done. VBG

Most of my week has been spent taking care of Waco. He's been really ill. We weren't happy with the original vet that we went to. So yesterday we got him into another vet that came highly recommended. It looks light Waco has an enlarged prostate. The hard part now is finding what is causing it. It could be an infection, so he is on antibiotics for the next 6 weeks, along with pain killers and an anti-inflammatory. We are really hoping this works!!! If not then we have to do a ultrasound with a biopsy to see if it's a cyst or cancer. A cyst means surgery. Cancer... I don't even want to talk about it! At least for now he is resting better with relief from the pain meds...

Waco was really matted under his chin, so I cut all that long hair off! Dan hates it when I cut his hair short... I really would like to cut the rest of his long hair off. I may have to wait until Dan isn't home.

I have more done on my puzzle!

Now I need to go quilt before I have to go to my other job!

WIP Wednesday, 10/14/09

Works in progress....

Yep! A puzzle! LOL Last month Dan decided he was tired of paying the high cost for cable and switched us to basis cable. Well, most nights there is nothing on that I want to watch so I went and bought a puzzle. I've been working on it for a couple weeks now and it's almost done... but it's hard! Purple flowers, purple sky, purple mountains and purple reflection of the mountain in the water.... All I have left to do is the purple flowers (iris) and all the pieces look the same... Oh well, it keeps me busy! I just have to remember not to stop at the table every time I walk by it when I'm quilting... VBG

What do you do when you have one lone block on the wall???

Make more...

I've had this one lone churn dash block on my wall since last spring. It was suppose to be for a block raffle at guild, but I never made it to the meeting. It's been staring me in the face until I just could stand it any longer. Maybe it's the bright colors on a gray day that made me to something about it. I only had enough of the yellow to make 4 more blocks... which won't work for what I had in mind. So, now I'm on to plan B. I'm going to make 4 more blocks with a little different fabric combination, then I will decide exactly what I want to do with them.

I do have a customer quilt on the machine, but don't want to show pix until it's done... ;-)

WIP Wedndesday 8/26/09 a day late...

I feel like I haven't done a whole lot lately.... Yesterday I spent most of the day cleaning my studio so I can walk without tripping on anything. I've had bead projects out on my table and piles of fabric here and there.

I did get my embroidered basket block done...

This is the last one I had to do. Now to get them into a quilt. Trying to decide what fabrics to use for this is the reason for all the little piles of fabric that were in my studio. I'm trying to use fabrics I have and not buy anymore...

I started a new embroidery project...

I also made earrings to go with the necklace I showed in this post

I have fabrics to make two skirts... I'm using Simplicity patter #5752.

I'm going to be using view C or B with no flounce. B is longer... so I just need to decide what length I want. I'll probably do the short version for this border print.

And the longer version for this fabric. I thought this one would look cute with my cowboy boots....

Now to find time to make these skirts.... I want to have them ready to wear at Innovations in a couple weeks.

WIP Wednesday 8/12/09

I can't believe I missed a whole week... Well, yes I can. Don't ask me what I did last week because it wasn't really much, or at least nothing particular stands out in my mind. OH, OH... I did do a small baby quilt for a customer. The only pix I got are close ups of the quilting. I did a freehand edge to edge heart pattern. It's not really a pattern I've seen anywhere but I did take inspiration from a design in No Boundaries by Nicole Webb & Jamie Wallen. (this book is now out of print as far as I know)

I've gotten most of my Lightening Strikes Twice from Scrap Therapy pieced together. I just need to add the final border then quilt it... I picked out a yummy plum batik for the border. It was quite dark next to the green so I added the small 3/4" orange border to add a bright splash of color. I can't wait to start quilting this one!

Yesterday I decided that I needed a new blue necklace. I had this art glass bead that a good friend of mine gave me a couple years ago, but had never done anything with. It has the perfect blue & green colors I wanted all swirling together. I got out my beads and start stringing. I was just about done with the very last string of mixed seed beads when I dropped the wire and beads went every where... grrr I patiently reworked that whole side and started to string the wires into the crimp bead when I did it again! GRRR!!! One should know when to give up and start fresh the next day...but NO! I don't know that! I did get it done and am really pleased with it.

It did end up a little short... you can see where I added just a bit to it at one side of the clasp. I was noway going to take it apart and start over!

I don't know why I showed that pic. Oh well...

Yep.. that's better! LOL!!!

If you are into quilts and like to do puzzles, check out Sue's blog. I really enjoy doing her puzzles every week.

WIP Wednesday, July 22nd

Frist, thanks for all the nice comments. If I don't get back to everyone individually it's because I'm trying to stay off the computer... I'm having too much fun quilting!

I'm still working on this....

I'm trying to decide on what to do on the background....

I'm only putting the flowers in a couple places.... but there still is a lot of black. So maybe some large McTavishing or swirly something or another.

Oh well... back to work I go!

WIP Wednesday, a day late...

I got busy yesterday cleaning the house... It's not like my house is dirty or messy, but I hadn't taken the time to do that deep cleaning that just needs to be done once in awhile. So anyway, I forgot all about it being WIP Wednesday.

I'm going to be teaching the next Scrap Therapy, Lightening Strikes Twice, class at Quilt Harbor this month, so I've been working on the sample. It uses 5" squares, so I thought it would be a good quilt to use some of the nickles from a swap I did a while back. Took out my box of nickles to see which I would like to work with and decided on the green pile. I love green.... Non of the other piles really went with the green for the second color so had to dig through my stash with purple in my mind. I found a group of magenta fabrics that I really liked with the green so went to work cutting. So far I'm really, really liking this quilt! I think I'll use it for one of the beds in our camp trailer.

Here's what I got going so far...

As I was piecing these block I realized my water jug matches my fabrics...

I decided that I don't need my quilt to be as big as what the pattern calls for so I'm only doing 3 rows of 8 blocks. Here's the first row...

And all 3 row done...

Did I mention that I really, really like this so far. It reminds me of all the foxgloves that are blooming at the edge of the woods. MMMM there's got to be a good name for this quilt in there somewhere. Now off to the quilt shop to pick out the sashing.

I've also got more coloring done on my little white quilt, but I'm not going to bore you with more pix of that until next week... VBG Oh, and I have a customer quit that I load yesterday after cleaning. On Tuesday I marked the quilting plan. I'm really excited about the plan for it, but you will just have to wait to see until I have some quilted....
