Swirl Ribbon Candy

I took me most of the day and all evening to do a 4 minute video....  I wanted to name this design Ho Ho's because it reminded me of those snack cakes, but that sounds like a trademark controversy waiting to happen.  Not at all what I want, so we're keeping with Swirl Ribbon Candy....

Pumpkin Seed part 2

I've been playing with my video editing program.... LOL It kinda makes me laugh at myself or with myself. One or the other. I always say "I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing with you, you just forgot to laugh!"

Anyway, here it is... More pumpkin seed quilting, but no talking! LOL I think I like the ones where I don't say anything best. I get tired of hearing myself while doing the edits...

Pumpkin Seed Quilting

I'm never really sure what to call it. Some call it 'pumpkin seed'... And I found reference to this pattern in Quilting with Style by Gwen Marston & Joe Cunningham as 'tea cup' or 'wine glass'. If there is another common name... please leave a comment and let me know.

I used this pattern in one of the large border in the Butterfly Kisses quilt. Here's a video on how I marked my grid and quilted this border....

I just realized that last 2 minutes of my video were cut off... and it has been deleted from my computer and camera... grrr I guess I'm still learning the editing portion of making videos! That teaches me to clean up my files before I watch the whole video through, which I should of done before I uploaded it to youtube... After editing and watching it back and forth more than several times... I got tired of hearing myself!

Here's a pic of the completed pumpkin seed border....

In my last post... the tools I used to quilt the feather motif are: Clover Chaco Liner for marking, Renae's 23" arc, and a 2 1/2" circle from Gadget Girls...

How to....

While quilting the Butterfly Kisses quilt I tried my hand at making a few how to videos.  My space is quite small for me, my machine and a video camera set up on a tripod... so some of the shots aren't the best.  I get my arm, hand and handle bar blocking what I'm doing in the first couple vidoes.  Then my skill at editing is still develping... it could be that it's taking me a little time to figure out the editing software.  Now the big challenge is to get the videos in my blog post....

Migraines and work... don't leave a lot of time to quilt!

It looks like I've been missing in action for a while...  Between my spring MIGRAINES and that thing called work... I haven't had time to do much else.  I usually can control the migraines with my diet, but that's just not working this year.  I don't eat cheese, chocolate or drink red wine.  I avoid MSG and soy products...  I've had my head scanned... they didn't find much in there!  Anyway, I'm hoping I'm over them for awhile!
I did get the Butterfly Kisses quilt done :-)  I hope you are ready for lots of pix....

A closer look at the center...

And a couple blocks...

And a few of the back...

On the top I used 4 different Superior King Tut threads and 3 different Bottom Line threads on the back.  I'm not sure if I like the top or the back the best...mmmm BOTH!!!  Hope you enjoy it as much as I did quilting it.

Customer loves her quilt...

It's been awhile since I posted. Now that all the hub bub of the spring quilts shows is over I have time to breath again and I'm back to quilting.

One of my customers came by on Friday to pick up her quilt and loved it... She wanted light custom, so that's what she got. Her quilt was made from the BQ pattern. It's a fun pattern to make... it can be fun and funky or very elegant depending on your choice of fabric.

I quilted swirls in the dark green sashing & a swirl variation in the border...

Simple meander in the blocks and a simple fern variation in the white...

I'm not sure what the batting is... customer supplied it. The thread is while SoFine and King Tut Oasis in the green.

Emergency quilt II

Thearcia ask if I knew where my customer got the panel for the Emergency quilt. I was guessing that it is from the quilt shop from my home town... the shop I have worked with and for, for over 20 years.... Rochelle's in Port Orchard. She has the best collection of novelty prints! So I checked out her website.... and there it was as a kit.

I've lots to do before going to MQX so I probably will be pretty quiet for the next week or more.....

Emergency quilt finished...

I finished the emergency quilt the other day. I think it turned out pretty cute... I would of liked to have stitch in the ditch on all the seams but my customer didn't want that. Stitch in the ditch is the next price level up from basic custom, so I understand budget when people are choosing what they want on their quilt.

WIP March 25th

I don't really have much to show for this week. I did get some more done on my last basket, but not enough to really see in a pic. I'm almost done with the Emergency 911 quilt... will show pix when it's done. I got a few disappearing 9-patch blocks sewn and slashed...

Thursday, March 19, 2009

You asked for it....

You asked for so here they are... the rest of the basket blocks.

In the pattern pack there are 31 blocks, but I decided to only do these 6. One reason is that so many of the blocks have way too many french knots. OK... I'm not a huge fan of french knots. Don't know why. They're fine in moderation like the center of the flowers, but not the whole flower, the whole ribbon or the whole basket... I have an idea how I want to set these blocks, with plenty of room for quilting.

Have you ever put something away, someplace where it will be easy to get it when you need it again... Then can't figure out where that was? Last week when I was straightening up the house before company I put a stack of quilt books away. Not in the bookcase cause I knew I would be getting them out again in a few days. Yep, you guessed it. I can't find them.... I've looked in every place that I normally set things that I'm working on or going to be using on the next project, but NO.... not there. They'll turn up when I least expect them.

IT'S SNOWING.....

I can't believe it's snowing... I'm so tired of being cold. I know a lot of you have much more snow than we do and that it stays around for months, but there is a reason why I live west of the mountains. I'm not a huge fan of snow. Yeah... it's kinda a cool to get snow at Christmas, but not in March.

And on the subject of quilting... I didn't get that quilt done on Thursday, due to the fact that I got called into work for a sick coworker. I did get all the sashing done and started on the setting triangles. Should be done today!!!

A few words about Tyler's boat. I will be adding pix of the progress of the restoration process, but since Tyler lives 2 hours away it will be a slow process. But well worth it! He is so excited that he told his Mom that he wants to cancel his snow boarding trip for spring break to come work on the boat.... He's picked out a color scheme already. Blue & white, should look good!

This boat is in a little rougher condition than I first thought. They will need everything... I mean everything! So this will mean going to swap meets to find things like a steering column, cleats, and hardware. They will make the seats themselves.

A Day Late

I'm going to try to keep current with WIP (works in progress) each week. One thing to remember is I said "try"... So anyway, this week I'm a day late and a dollar short. Here are a few pix of the customer quilt that I'm working on. I'm hoping to get it done today (famous last words). It's been on my machine for a couple weeks... working part time really puts a cramp in my quilting time.

The blocks...

The border...

Ribbon Candy in the sashing...

A few years ago when our nephew was about 13 my husband came home with this old boat... I couldn't for the life of me find a reason why he would haul this piece of junk home. He told me it was a project that he and Aaron could work on, that it would teach him how to restore the boat and give him something to do besides video games and hanging out all summer. Aaron lost interest in this project pretty fast, but they did get it done and we have been enjoying this little boat for the last 10 summers.

So last night I'm walking Waco and I'm up by the stop sign waiting for the traffic so we can cross the street and head back toward home, when I see this truck pulling an old boat. I think to myself "that looks a lot like our boat when Dan first brought it home". At the same time Dan pulls up to the stop sign. He has his window down and yells at me as he goes by "I'm going to follow that...." Like I had any doubt in my mind that he wouldn't.

So I get home and start making dinner for myself (Dan was suppose to be on his way to his hot rod club) when the phone rings. It's Dan... I say "Did you buy a boat?" He says "look out the window at the barn." Sure enough! There he is dropping off this little boat.

Later when he gets home he tells me he bought it for Tyler (my close friends son who just turn 13). Tyler is trilled!!! He can't wait to come and start working on it. He's even going to get into his savings (for a car...) to help buy a motor for it. It's just like our boat, same make and model. Looks a little better than ours did when we first got it, but still needs some work. What a better way to keep a kid out of trouble...

You can see ours through the window all covered up...
